Q: What is the mining gold technique that is like a tub with a stick called?
It’s very urgent coz it’s due tomorrow and I read it in a book but i forgot what it was called.
A: Are you referring to a sluice box?
Q: what mining techniques were used in the 1848 California gold rush?
i know the pan, rocker, long tom, cradel but were their any more
A: Placer mining, hydraulic mining, and many, many more. Virtually all types. See my pictures of the hydraulic mining operation that raped the countryside 150 years ago and prompted one of the first ecological legal actions in the state near Nevada City at Malakoff Diggins State Park here:

Q: How is gold made?
How is gold made? like Real gold. Not gold mining techniques, but how did gold just “appear” there? How was it made? Minerals? Chemicals? Rocks?
A: gold isnt ‘made’ it is a naturally occuring element in the environment.
Q: How do I mine for gold?
I live in Northern California in GOLD COUNTRY and I want to quit my monotonous job and start mining for gold up here in the rivers and mountains, hoping to strike it rich. What are the best techniques for individuals to mine for gold? How much ’silt’ do you need to collect to make, say, $1000? Thank you!
A: Gold is currently worth about $826US / troy ounce.
Do you own property? If I owned riverfront property in gold country, I wouldn’t let anybody pan for gold on my property but me. There may be public properties from which you can pan for gold, but I suspect the EPA will get after you if you set up a sluice or start strip-mining gravel.
You may have to sift through tons of gravel to find a speck of gold.
Good luck,
Grandpa
Q: Can you tell what mine, in which country, a gold item came from?
Is it possible, even with the malleability and ductility of gold, to still be able to find trace amounts of other material that could tell you where the gold used for a piece came from?
Specifically, I am interested in the ‘gold men and women’ found in the kurgans in Kazakhstan. There are over 4,000 gold pieces per ‘gold person’ and, I, also, want to know whether the mining techniques that were around in the 4th or 5th century B.C.E. were sophisticated enough to completely refine the gold , hence leaving no trace of impurity, or, is that just the nature of the process of refining gold itself?
Any and all information would be much appreciated
A: With modern purification methods, it would be very difficult to find a trace element composition that reflected the original source in a unique manner. The material is simply too refined. Or rather, perhaps I should say that I have not heard of this being done with any success with regard to modern gold sources,
However, in the past, gold was often poorly refined so golden objects from antiquity sometimes still display minor (trace) element differences reflecting the source material. The levels of many of the trace elements have little affect on the gold behavior but are still identifiable with modern analytical methods.
The process of using highly sensitive analytical methods to define gold sources or areas of origin is called “gold fingerprinting”.
Q: Can anyone explain it or summary it for me?
Mining and milling
Uranium is usually mined by either surface (open cut) or underground mining techniques, depending on the depth at which the ore body is found. In Australia the Ranger mine in the Northern Territory is open cut, while Olympic Dam in South Australia is an underground mine (which also produces copper, with some gold and silver). The newest Canadian mines are underground.
From these, the mined uranium ore is sent to a mill which is usually located close to the mine. At the mill the ore is crushed and ground to a fine slurry which is leached in sulfuric acid to allow the separation of uranium from the waste rock. It is then recovered from solution and precipitated as uranium oxide (U308) concentrate.*
*Sometimes this is known as “yellowcake”, though it is finally khaki in colour.
Some mines in Australia, USA and Kazakhstan use in situ leaching (ISL) to extract the uranium from the ore body underground and bring it to the surface in solution. It is recovered in much the same fashion.
U308 is the uranium product which is sold. About 200 tonnes is required to keep a large (1000 MWe) nuclear power reactor generating electricity for one year.
A: Just go over in word by word, sentence by sentence. Underground mining is when someone digs a hole in the ground, and brings the underground rocks up. Milling is when machines are used to crush the rock into smaller rocks and dust.
There is no such thing as U308. Perhaps you mean U(sub3)O(sub8). The “U” is for uranium, and the “O” is for oxygen. There are 3 uranium atoms combined with 8 oxygen atoms, for each molecule of uranium oxide.
Uranium natural isotopes are U238, U235, and U234. Artificial forms include U232 and U233.
Q: Scientific minds – I’ll give you £2 million real money for an effective solution which works?
Ok… I am involved in running a mine which contains a bit of gold but a lot of silver.
Problem with the mine is that the ore contains millions of ounces of silver – but the silver particles are encapsulated in silica.
Due to the silica problem, current known mining techniques are only seeing 5% of the silver in the mine being recovered – with the rest lost during the silver extraction process.
HOW could more silver particles be more easily recovered from the silica???????
An imaginative solution would allow much more profitibility from mining operations – and hence fund the winning prize by itself.
This is serious. If your answer is accepted seriously by the board.. we will seek to contact you in the future (by either email or IM or by seeking you out via an open question directed to you), to either ask for more detail on paper, or, if your answer is accepted and implemented due to it being creatively great, to simply award you your winning payment in 2008.
fifilapoo114 … 100 million tonnes of silver in the mine at $13 per ounce = over $1 billion US.
Sorry.. not tonnes.. “ounces”… I responded too quickly out of frustration that our question is not being taken seriously.
Indy500… I understand that would also be a good option.. but we would actually pay you as we have never run a cartel.
Ok ok ok… you lot are rightly too cynical rofl.
HOWEVER… it’s an honest to god prize… but it’s worth $10 million to the winner.

I would have honestly paid you the £2 million if “we” won. Please remember me if you win (a small finders fee for letting you know would be appreciated).
A: You make your question sound very suspcious by offering such a large sum of money, but I do have a possible solution that you could look into, and since my motivation on Yahoo answers is purely to help people with their questions, I will outline if for you.
First, you would need to go through whatever normal procedures you go through to remove extraneous material from the ore so that there are not unwanted reactions in subsequent steps. I am not a mining engineer (I’m a geochemist), so I don’t know what that would entail. Once you have it to the point where you have mostly silver and its associated silica, grind it down to as small a particle size and you can reasonably afford (using whatever methods are already in place for the ore crushing). Then, place this into a moderately concentrated solution of hydrofluoric acid. The acid will easily dissolve away the silica (this is the same reaction as glass etching), but will leave the silver intact because silver has a positive standard reduction potential. This means that silver is resistant to being dissolved by acid, so the silica will be gone but the silver will be left intact for harvesting and purification. The rate at which you could extract the silver would depend on how small you can grind the ore particles and what concentration of hydrofluoric acid you use.
This plan’s main drawback is that you must use hydrofluoric acid, which in concentrated form can be very dangerous. You will need strict safety protocol. However, you can purchase solutions that have already been diluted to minimize the risk, and if there is really as much elemental silver embedded in the silica as you say there is, your increase in profit from all the new silver recovered should be more than enough to pay for the new procedure.
As I said, I am not a mining engineer so I would be ill equipped to come up with working details for this plan. But the idea is logically and scientifically sound, and I’m sure that you can find a chemical engineer or someone with similar qualifications who could help you investigate its feasibility and possibly put the plan into action.
Q: Mining?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?
Here are some questions on mining!!!
1. What is mined in australia?
2.What are the minerals rescources used for?
3. What were some historical events in Australian mining?
4. In which areas/towns doesmining occur?
5. In what way does mining help Australia?
6. What was the gold rush?
7.What are some impacts which occur on the environment from mining?
8. What were some difficulties encountered by early miners.
9. What has been some changes in mining techniques?
A: I know It’s a bit late to answer this considering we finished this lesson yesterday…but I decided to say hi. and also bye.
(bcoz of going the USA in 16hours!!!)
cya Loz, FEBRUARY!!!!!!!!!!!
Q: Platinoids. What are they? How are they used? Where are their commercial prices found? Other info sources?
There is discussion in the mining world about reworking old ores using new technology to extract platinoids and PGMs (?). Evidently these materials could not be extracted by earlier refining techniques applied to gold ores. In order to analyze the value of stocks of companies seeking to do this, I would like to get a better understanding of their market value. Who buys them? For what purpose?
A: what you want to search for is Platinum Group Minerals, or PGM.

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don’t you take it awful hard
‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own back yard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I’ve got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
A: There is no technique – it’s tasteless, persistent use of melancholy WITH a “social” structure, it’s obvious that it’s politically geared, politically motivated, politically sewn to give YOU the reader a sense of guilt while also persuading you to have pity or share in the remorse – guilt driven poetry??
POLITICS is OUTSIDE the (((GIFT))) of poetry and therefore NOT within it’s generous field of THOUGHT either, lending the writer too many safety-nets in his/her writing.
Making it completely BASIC through the need for public consideration/recognition as a poet, without first truly using the ART of poetry to define through a more beautiful outline first, before proceeding to the hearts and minds with the use of severity in a social structure.
IOW: it might as well have been a note of some kind that’s been written in a rhyme-form – but is not worth being called POETRY!!!!!
Q: Help with Environmental Science homework?
Use the following scenario in answering the question. After reading a newspaper article about gold mining prospects near your home town, your sister commented that it seems as though miners are going after ores with less and less concentrations of the gold. She mentions the rich gold veins and nuggets that she reads about in historical accounts of gold mining and wonders what factors have lead to the change. She tells you that she knows that the days of gold nuggets in the streams are gone, but that she can’t believe how small the percentage of gold is in the ore they are now mining. First, you tell your sister that she sounds like your father, commenting on the good old days. Then you explain to her that there are many factors driving the changes and that there are important environmental implications of the mining.
Which of the following factors were not in your explanation?
A. Technological inventions can increase the efficiency of gold extraction from the ore.
B. New sources of the gold ore are found through better exploration techniques.
C. Technological inventions can increase efficiency of gold processing out of the ore.
D. As supplies decrease and prices rise it is less rewarding to explore for new sources of the gold.
E. All of these factors are based in economics and would be used in my explanation.
Heap-leach extraction involves piling crushed ore into large piles and spraying it with ________________.
A. an alkaline-cyanide solution
B. concentrated salt water
C. high-pressure steam
D. giant sandblasters
E. none of these are correct.
Thanks for your help.
A: D and A.

A: mine some runes and sell it and coal and stuff like that and sell it
Q: Please help with World History Homework?
1) How did agriculture make life harder for Neolithic People?
2)Achievements of the Ancient Egyptians included all of the following except? a-the development of cunieform writing script b-medical techniques to treat fractures and wounds c-advanced mathematical principles, including geometry d-365 day calendar
3) In the philosophy of plato, the “real” world could be understood only through: a-ideas, or ideal forms b-careful observations c-mathematical theorems d-scientific method
4) The period known as the pax romana included all of the following except: a-peace and stability b-the construction of roads and public buildings c-flourishing trade d-a comfortable standard of living for almost everyone
5) Ghana because a trade based empire largely because of: a-its proximity to the red sea b-its location between saharan salt mines and tropical gold mines c-its proximity to morocco d-the conversion of its rulers to islam
A: 1) the neolithic people were originally nomadic. agriculture meant a drastic change in life style
2) cuneiform writing is an achievement of the Sumerians
3) the real world can only be understood through careful observations
4) comfortable standard of living for everyone, slave trade made life hard for the slaves. (i’m unsure about this one)
5) because of its proximity to the red sea, many explorer sailed at that time making the sea a good spot for trade.
Q: Real life investigations?
Hi, i’m writing a research paper for my class and i’m in really short supply of practical/technical information about how real life police investigations take place. All criminology materials i have are very theoretical and lets say i want some hard facts to put in my paper.
So the paper is about drug proliferation. I spent time at the library and people normally did this topic from a sociological point of view. On the contrary i want to do it from the other side and for now i’m thinkin about finding reasons for the surge in drug related crimes support it with some “street facts” and finish with a thesis on possible ways to fight drug proliferation.
Now that you have some background info i was hoping some officers here with practical experience in drug investigations might help me with some information. i’m especially interested in how investigations usually start and then possibly develop into something bigger (leading to a big bust like the recent one that landed 300 arrest). also what are (usually) decisive points in such investigations, key findings that either stop and investigation or reveal much more then originally expected. i’d also appreciate if you could in short describe case/cases you’ve been working on, how they started, progressed, ended (also any info on court ruling would be handy), what techniques you used or were used. Most of all any new emerging trends in drug production (on grow houses, labs, plantations) would be a gold mine. I’ve googled this and found everything from US Navy surveillance ships to isreali uav’s but actual info on criminal strategies, tactics is really hard to find. somehow i doubt that the things some college professor with no street experience wrote in a book work on the street.
i realize this is a sensitive topic police officers/detectives are mostly unwilling to discuss but i’d really appreciate any info. if anyone is interested in an intelligent conversation i’d gladly continue it in private.
A: For local law enforcement drug investigations usually start with officers or the public’s observations and complaints about minor trafficking.
Officers observe possible transactions and stop people involved leaving the area. They “turn” them. Get them to trade up with information, if they have any. The information is also verified via observation. If outdoors and drugs can be seized and arrest made they do so. If indoors they gather enough info for a warrant.
Those arrested area again used to move up the chain. Often they can be turned into confidential and sometimes paid informants.
Information from a number of sources is used, again along with observation to move up the chain.
Methods? I’ve hidden for hours in trees and on roofs with binoculars, I have worked to gain the trust of individuals in impacted communities. Also gained the trust of bad guys that my word was good.
Interdiction is also used. You observe and using knowledge of how drug traffickers transport you stop and seize. That can lead to others. sometimes you take on the identification of a drug trafficker.
It is surprising but the same basic methods, with more sophisticated observational techniques are used on the larger levels of the drug trade.
You get the small fry to rat out the bigger guys and keep moving up.
Court cases when involved in drugs in the US always hinge on the officers observations, legality of arrest or search, previous experience and knowledge of drug activity. All of these are challenged by attorneys in our adversarial court system. If the police lose the challenger (called a motion) the case is often lost.
The case law on such things as flyovers and thermal imaging for growing areas and processing plants is still in the early stages of emergence.
As far a specific cases, it is all up to the judges interpretation of the laws, precedents and evidence presented.
I have had cases dumped because the judge did not believe I could tell the smell of PCP even though I had been poisoned by some in the past. I have had cases go forward with the same exact type of observational evidence heard before a different judge.
In many cases when you get someone the feds are interested in they will come in a make your defendant an informant. The stuff just moves on from there.
