Q: Is there anybody that could help me about acidic sludge?
The acidic sludge is a matter that remain after refining oil(bright stok or lube cut).that is very acidic and black.it`s state is similar of tar or asphalt.it form when H2SO4 (c) is added to oil, mixing and then thay are settling to seperate the sludge in 24 hr. this is the old process for preparation of transformer oil for example. my mail is reza.oil_1363@ yahoo.com

A: Reza ….I’m sure your question is either how can you neutralize the Sulphuric or what you can do to get rid of it or is there something that can be made from it Or seperated out of it. Basically the resin your describing is a mixture of Parafin (all different gravities) and sand and heavy metals which include chrome ,lead and arsenic. Lots of people in operation just drive off any lights by heating, this is pretty hard to do with H2so4 as your first off gas is Hydrogen Sulfide (h2S) and its handling is rather dangerous. If a chemical neutralizer is added in volumes it can set off a trapped gass expansion in an unvented tank which will push the sides out. So most folks do this..They press the Bottom out through a diatomacious earth filter . This might take two passes . Put the cake left over in a drum for disposal at a Haz/mat location. Then either let Haz/mat incinerate the fluid or get their own permit …either way its a costly problem . With air standards and emmision controls,, precipitators are common. These scrubbers are very costly. All in all i would say its a pretty grey picture i have painted..Being in the bussiness of oil reclamation is a pretty hard road.. It can be done though. Get a good petroleum PE to help , take samples and know the chemistry before starting. …Good luck with the process…I hope i got close to your question as it was sot of hid in there somwhere……From the E…

Q: The net cost to refine a gallon or a barrel of crude of oil not including cost or tax.
A barrel of crude is refined to 19.5 gal. gas, 9 gal. fuel oil, 4 gal. jet fuel and 11 gal lubricants, kerosene, asphalt and petrochemicals, i would like to know the cost in 2008 dollars, excluding cost of a barrel and taxes?

A: That isn’t a simple question. different quality crudes give different costs. and the eff of the refinery certainly has an impact.- but for gasoline it costs typically about 50 cents a gallon to refine it to the current low sulfur requirements.

Q: I’m tired of the “we are too dependant on oil” line, are you?
The annoying claim that we need to get off oil to “save the planet” is old and tired. Do these people realize how many products they use everyday that is made from refined oil. Here is a list… how many are you willing to give up:

In our current economy there is hardly a place where one will not find a product that is a result of oil. Direct (e.g. fuel) or indirect (e.g. medicine) created from crude oil.

Now that more and more scientists are speaking about the end of cheap oil, the amount of products that are based on this oil, is still increasing.

Willing to give up everything made with plastic?

A: the technology is out there, we could REDUCE our dependence on oil, nobody suggests eliminating it all together, you are correct that we could not at this point remove our need for oil.

Q: How the crude oil is refined and what are the products separated from crude oil?
India is importing crude oil and it is refined into other components. The Petrol and Gas is one of the components and I want to know about other comnponents and their price and how it is marketed, either directly or thro’ agents and what is the gain for Indian Government. The Petroleum and gas prices are hiking every year in India and I wanted some details of the import of crude oil and its roleplay into other components. Even the wastages like asphalt is used into some other products and there should be more gain in this industry but all the time it is said that there is no gain. I want to be clear on this subject matter so that it can also go public and people may realise the real situation and make use of such products worthy and use it for goodness hereafter instead of wasting it. pls help people who are really cared for this world. I love India and love this Universe too.

A: When crude oil reaches the oil refinery, distillation is used to convert the complex hydrocarbons in crude oil into other fuels including gasoline, diesel, jet, heating, other fuel oils, and liquefied petroleum gas.
