In the past, people have posted questions on here about refining gold from computer parts and scrap. Some mentioned they could get all the computer parts they want free. Could someone please let me in on the secret? Where can I find lots of old computers, scrap computer, scrap computer parts free or very cheap?
A: Put an ad in the paper offering free PC Disposal Services.
This means you will go to business sites (or homes) & remove & dispose of all unwanted PC hardware for free.
Many businesses look for such services.
You can even create business cards & include them in a mass mailing.

Q: Does anyone know where to sell scrap platinum?
I have a good amount of scrap platinum left over from a machining job, and it’s worth good money if I can find a place that will refine / recycle it and buy it. I don’t want to use a jewler, b/c they rip you off… and some of the places I found on line seem suspicious. Most of the reputable refiners only work with corporations. Does anyone have any suggestions?
A: May be you can try selling it at eBay. You can try selling platinum to jewelers: For eg., http://www.arnoldjewelers.com/buy_sell_gold_1.shtml says that they accept platinum.
Searching points to some websites that buy platinum. http://www.midwestrefineries.com/ says “No minimum amounts – No order too small or too large”. You can also try http://www.metalworld.com/a/0174.html — they welcome even student inquiries. Never tried these myself, though.
Q: Has anyone ever sold used circuit boards to refining companies? If so, can you make any money at it?
I am wondering how feasible it is. I already scrap electronics for metal content.
A: It’s an established business. But you need to be fairly large to make any money at it, the profit margin per board is small. It requires expertise to sort out which boards are valuable, and which not. More info here:

Q: i have some metal scrap plates containing thin layer of coated platinum on the surface, how can i refine it?
i think platinum is coated on a aluminum sheets.i want to refine the platinum and put out platinum from the matel ,please guide me . Thanks
A: To extract it in a pure form, you can dissolve it in aqua regia, causing all metal to dissolve, then afterwards boil it with some hydrogen peroxide, which will cause the platinum to precipitate. Filter it off, wash the filtrate, and the residue should be reasonably pure platinum metal. Afterwards, cast it into neat ingots.
Q: Beleivers: why not scrap the scientific method and just look for answers in the Bible/Koran/Torah etc?

It involves observing something. Then formulating a theory. Then getting the data together. Seeing how the data fists against theory. Getting more data. Refining the theory (or scrapping it if the data doesn’t fit) Repeat until proven or someone comes up with a new theory that replaces the old one based on new data.. Repeat again

Q: where to sell gold bullion / dore from dental scrap gold to?
I’ve melted lots of dental scrap into an ingot / gold bar and refined it using a home refining system. its 99.98% gold. where can i sell it to? I saw others on Ebay which sold for a lot less than the gold spot price (ie, spot was $20/gram and other home-made bars were selling for roughly $16/gram only) The only ones selling for a good price were the stamped ones from Metalor, Suisse, etc. Since I made it myself, what do I do with it? I tried selling some before to refiners I found online like Midwest Refineries and Garfield, but the return was NOT as advertised. They claimed I would get 94%-96% of the value but they really only gave me like 60% – scammers, to say the least. Anyways, does anyone have experience with a reputable gold buyer for non-minted gold bullions? Allso, I have a good amount of palladium which is about half the price of gold – who can buy that at a good price? Thanks

A: Many coin dealers will buy bullion. You might also try jewelry stores (real jewelers, not the places in the mall).

Q: How much gold will I get?
I have three ounces of gold scrap that is 10-14kt and i am refining it with aqua regia and there is a step I need to know how much (smb) sodium metabisulfite to add so i can get my gold out. About how much(smb) to add to get the gold out.
A: let’s say it was 14 kt. that’s the maximum.
14 kt means 14 / 24 = 58.3% gold
3 ounces x 0.583 = 1.75 ounces of gold.. again MAXIMIUM

Now I’m not sure if your ounce is avoirdupois or troy, but since 1 avoirdupois ounce = 28.3 g and 1 troy ounce = 31.1 g, I’ll go with troy because it will give the larger number.
1.75 ounce x (31.1 g Au / ounce) x (1 mole / 197.0 g) = 0.276 moles Au.

Next. The chemistry of what’s happening is this.
Au + aqua regia —-> HAuCl4.. this is Au (gold) in the +3 state.
sodium bisulfite is Na2S2O5 with S in the +4 state. when mixed with water it forms SO2 which is easily oxidized to a +6 state and therefore is a reducing agent…
1 Au(+3) + 3 e’s —> 1 Au
2 S(+4) —-> 2 S(+6) + 4 e’s
multiply the first by 4 and the second by three and add and you get this…
4 Au(+3) + 6 S(+4) —> 4 Au metal…
ie 4 moles Au reacts with 3 moles Na2S2O5.
so mass Na2S2O5 needed goes by this…
0.276 moles Au x (3 moles Na2S2O5 / 4 moles Au) x (190.1 g Na2S2O5 / mole Na2S2O5) = 39.4 g Na2S2O5
that is the minimum amount of Na2S2O5 needed. but you should add it in excess. Say, double that amount. 80g.

now the rule of thumb that a lot of the online gold recovery websites give you is 10% more than then the weight of your gold. 3 ounces x 31 g / ounce = 91 g… 91 x 1.1 = 100 g Na2S2O5.. but that’s probably overkill since you have only 14 kt gold.
fyi.. assuming 100% yield, you should be able to recover about 1.75 ounce x $980 / ounce = $1,700 ..

Q: How is profit made on selling silver tableware to a refinery treated for tax purposes?
Purchased silver flatware and holloware (mostly dented) for the purpose of reselling to a refinery as scrap silver to make a profit.
Most of the pieces were purchased 1-2 years ago; a few within the last year. However, it was refined in one batch with one payout.
Would that profit be treated as ordinary income or capital gain? What are the tax rates?
If capital gain, how would I separate the profit (payout minus basis) into long term and short term gain since it was refined in one big batch with one payout?
A: How much money are we talking here? Is this a profitable endeavor
Capital gain. the items you purchased more than a year before selllng are long term. and those that you bought less than a year before selling are short term.
you will enter your purchase date and $ paid for it. Then you enter sales date, which will be same for all entries since you sold all at one time. Do you know the weights of each purchase? You would prorate the total price recieved in the sale by the % of weight that each purchase represents.

A: Purchase Lange’s Handbook Of Chemistry or The CRC Handbook Of Chemistry and Physics for names and molecular formulas. Peroxide means you have a compound where the oxygen is carrying a -1 charge instead of -2. ie., H2O2 is hydrogen peroxide. nitrous oxide is NO (N assigned oxidation of +2), your acid is organic but I don’t recognize the name. You can also type in any name of any compound on google and it will give you the molecular formula and standard known data. I have no input regarding the text you referenced. Q: Why don’t we uncap our domestic , privately owned oil wells here in the States and refine our own crude?
People I know have had to stop pumping because the equipment used to pump the oil out of the ground is worth more in scrap. Yet we pay high prices for foreign oil.
A: US Oil Companies are waiting for the price to get high enough that the people will pay anything to get oil/fuel.
Big oil is the same as Big Railroads of the 1880-90’s, Greed driven and profit sustained. Screw the public.

I am going to the nearest city to take some10 and 14 ct.gold Broken bracelets ,chains, rings (that I found ) not anything great. Maybe a gold coin . When they say $760 an oz, Do they mean $760. Or $7.60. I hate to be dumb ,but I have no experience in this avenue. Please relate some insight, and somethings to watch out for. I checked better business bureau. I will be taking a friend , and will weigh gold before going. What else.? They refine their gold there they are a jewelry design in a good SHOPPING district serious info only.

A: That would be $760 per ounce. Assuming it’s solid gold jewelry you’re dealing with. Most jewelry is sold at 14 ct. or 18 ct. I’m not sure what a buyer of scrap gold is looking for…perhaps 24 ct (which is pure gold)? What I do know is that the higher the carat of the gold, the more pure gold is in it, so the higher the value. Check the links on your chains and the inside of the rings for the ct. content. That way you can know going into your sale what you should be getting for it.
The 1st link below looks like a good website for everything gold (including the current price per ounce around the world). The 2nd link is specific to selling scrap gold, which relates to you. Do as much homework as you can beforehand. That way it’s less likely anyone can take advantage of you. Good luck!
P.S. I just perused that 2nd link and it has GREAT TIPS on selling your scrap gold. Read the whole thing. It could be the difference between making some good money for yourself or not being paid what your jewelry is worth.
I’d say the wisest things you can do are:
1) take photos of all the items you’re selling
2) catalog their gold content
3) remove any gems/jewels from settings, as well as other metals (like silver), if possible
4) weigh all the gold and document it
5) take the items to a jeweler OTHER than the one you’re going to sell it at, and get an estimate of what it all could be worth
6) make copies for yourself of any paperwork you fill out
Q: Need to find gold refiners?
I have a vast amount of gold plated jewelry, solid gold jewelry, computer scrap and so on. Ive done a few searches on the net and keep getting the same few refiners. Some charge rediculous prices to refine you precius metals, like lot fees and assay charges and on top of that they keep a percentage of the metals recoverd.
Can anybody gimmie a few places to go to? I live in Pennsylvannia. somewhere semi close would be nice but not neccisary, i would be willing to pay a few bucks in shipping to avoid 2 or 300 dollars in rediculous charges.

A: i like it 9/10 you havew good spells and traps and your monster aren t all that bad good effect but maybe i would get rid of luster and add monatge dragon or the caculator i know you say it for the attack but montage dragon effect would make it even have a stornger attack than 1900
